Describe what you are handing over
Say which currency you have and which currency you want. “Dollars” could mean US, Canadian or Australian dollars, so name the currency and the banknote denominations. If you are exchanging euros for another currency, ask whether the branch supplies it and whether you should book. Do not assume every office offers the same transactions.
Compare the payout, with all charges included
Ask each office for the amount you will receive after fees for the same cash amount. A “no commission” sign does not, on its own, tell you which quote pays more. If one quote includes a separate fee, request the final payout so that both answers describe the same transaction.

Use a reference rate as context, not a booking
A rate shown in a currency app or search result is not a confirmed offer for physical banknotes. Before setting off, find out whether the branch’s quote applies at the counter, through an online booking or only under specific conditions. Keep the response and ask when the quote expires.
Make the enquiry easy to answer
A useful message is: “I have US dollar banknotes and want euros. For this amount, how many euros will I receive after all charges? Can you accept these denominations, and how long is the quote valid?” Give your amount to the office, not in a public review. If a number reaches central customer service, include the branch address.
Contact a branch that handles your exchange
For foreign banknotes into euros, Quickgold Diagonal, Hostafrancs and Virrei Amat publish that service. Europound lists buying and selling foreign currency. Central de Envíos Còrsega lists US dollars, pounds, Swiss francs and Colombian pesos into euros; Goldstreet also publishes banknote exchange into euros. Use the contact details to confirm the banknotes and amount you plan to bring.
Put the quote into your day’s plans
Consider where you are staying, opening hours and the cost of reaching the office. A higher payout can be less useful if the journey costs more than the difference. If you are deciding between an airport desk and the city, check access and timing as well as the figures.
Confirm the agreement at the counter
Before handing over your cash, check that the conditions still match the quote. Count the money you receive and keep the receipt. For identification, handling banknotes and other practical steps at the office, read the visitor guide below.
Questions before you go
Which office has the best exchange rate in Barcelona today?
Ask offices for current quotes for your currency, amount and transaction. Without those comparable quotes, a fixed list cannot establish who will give you the most today.
Does zero commission mean the best deal?
Compare the total you receive, because the offered exchange rate also affects the result. A quote with no separate commission is not automatically better than every quote with a fee.
Can I exchange pounds or US dollars for euros?
Several offices in the directory publish these services, including Quickgold, Europound, Central de Envíos Còrsega and Goldstreet. Contact the specific branch about the banknotes you have and the amount.
